IBS Flare Up Symptoms and Treatments
I avoid IBS flare up symptoms like the plague because basically…THEY’RE AWFUL!
An IBS flare up can easily put you out of commission for days or even weeks..yes weeks.
IBS flare ups can come on suddenly and they are extremely painful and uncomfortable.
It can be extremely frustrating if you don’t know what causes them and how to treat them.
If you don’t know how to treat a flare up, it can go on for weeks!!
Who wants to miss out on daily life, fun outings, work, school, all the things we need to live a good life??
What Is An IBS Flare Up?
An IBS flare up is my worst nightmare, it’s the most painful thing I’ve experienced and it leaves me absolutely drained and exhausted.
IBS flare ups are also known as IBS attacks. Usually a flare up includes one or several of these: constipation, diarrhea, cramping and/or bloating.
Those symptoms can last from hours to weeks depending on how you deal with them.
IBS flare ups differ from person to person, not all attacks are caused by the same thing or include the same symptoms.
Flare ups can last hours or up to weeks at a time!
In the early days of my IBS diagnosis, I had flare ups often and never knew how to get rid of them.
Turns out that I was eating trigger foods and not treating my sensitive body with the right foods during a flare up.
Unfortunately, for me, I didn’t have the knowledge or information to help myself.
There are two major influences of IBS flare up symptoms, which are stress and trigger foods.
Trigger foods are not well tolerated by the G.I. tract in IBS patients, causing flare ups.
While IBS can be influenced by stress and tension, it’s not a direct cause, but can trigger symptoms.
Stress can cause an array of symptoms, and it can worsen IBS flare up symptoms. Stress can make us sick if we let it.
It’s crucial to take the time to de-stress and avoid creating additional stress!

2. Trigger Foods
The gut is very sensitive to what you are putting in your body if you have IBS or another chronic digestive illness.
Certain foods and beverages can cause IBS flare ups which can include constipation, diarrhea, cramping and other IBS symptoms.
Changing Up Your Diet
This is always easier said than done, but it’s crucial. I haven’t had coffee in 8 years…if I can do it, you can too!
I suggest keeping a food journal if you are trying to pinpoint trigger foods.
