Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth Treatment could potentially cure Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This is definitely worth looking into and getting tested for. The test is a super simple breath test done by a doctor.I’m sure you’re confused as to why I’m focusing on Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth Treatment??

In short, small intestinal bacterial overgrowth is referred to as SIBO.

Many professionals out there believe that SIBO is causing your IBS symptoms.

There are several popular theories on the cause of IBS and this one is at the top!

I’m here to provide some detailed information and treatment options for Irritable Bowel Syndrome and SIBO. (get your papers and pencils out!)

What’s SIBO and How Does It Affect Me?

Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth Treatment could potentially cure Irritable Bowel Syndrome. This is definitely worth looking into and getting tested for. The test is a super simple breath test done by a doctor. One of my favorite blogs, written by Dr. Axe states that “When you have SIBO, as food passes through the small intestine, the bacterial overgrowth interferes with the healthy digestive and absorption process.”.

Poor digestion and SIBO can absolutely cause symptoms like those of Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

While we want ‘good’ bacteria in the large intestine, the small intestine should not harbor bacteria!

My made-up example is two people with different pizza preferences, one likes cheese, the other pepperoni.  They settle for one pizza with half cheese and half pepperoni.  The pizza shop accidentally gets a few pepperonis on the cheese side, this is just like a little bacteria getting into the small intestine.  Even if it’s good bacteria, it doesn’t belong there!  Good bacteria belongs in the large intestine.

The small intestine is a very crucial part of the digestion process, it absorbs the nutrients we need.

It sits between the stomach and large intestines.

With bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine, it will be tough to absorb these nutrients, causing unwanted symptoms and less absorption of nutrients.

Cause or Misdiagnosis?

Some treat SIBO as a cause of IBS, while others think they’re two separate illnesses all together.

A huge question arises, Do I have IBS or do I have SIBO??

You could have both, and a lot of research leads us to the conclusion that many IBS patients also have SIBO.

Most likely, the SIBO is causing IBS symptoms in these patients.

badgut.org has written an article all about IBS and SIBO along with research that took place in the United States.

This research points us towards IBS and SIBO being very-much related.

SIBO can be confirmed through a simple breath test given by a doctor.

There are also stool and urine tests which are more accurate.

I personally experience major bloating daily.

While I have’t been tested, I’ve looked into small intestinal bacterial overgrowth treatments.

Of course, you will want to consult your doctor first.

Treating SIBO and IBS

Treatment could take a very long time, depending on how long your body has taken damage from SIBO.

Luckily, there are many Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth treatment options.

The most popular treatment from doctors would be an antibiotic.

But for people like me who don’t tolerate antibiotics well, we need other options!

You can adjust your diet to a specific carbohydrate diet.
